Introducing Fioritura

Darkness has a way of knowing the things we’ve forgotten. Half Mystic Journal’s thirteenth issue held our hearts against the concrete & forced us to remember. Thank you, dear songbirds, for chasing Vesper’s event horizon with us, carving a home out of that static hour without honest name. Now, as the longest night bends beneath its own gravity, we turn our backs from the last lit edge of the world & step once more into our fragile, humming bodies. The void thins to grey, then something altogether stranger, wilder. Not light, but leaves.

The theme for Opus II, Issue IV is Fioritura: a decorative run of notes added to a melody, & an Italian noun meaning “flowering.” For our fourteenth issue, we’re seeking death valley superblooms, vocal fry as ornamentation, matryoshka dolls, effervescence & efflorescence, wind chimes harmonising with birdsong, peacock tails, appoggiaturas, monogrammed everything, crown shyness, filigree, honeysuckle buds blossoming into jasmine, petri dishes as still lifes, dirt beneath painted fingernails, technicolour tenderness, flowers outsinging their neighbours down the length of the garden.

The new issue will be released in June 2027, & submissions of poetry & prose are open now. Half Mystic Journal pays $20 per accepted piece.
